Licence types and date

There are many different types of driving licences, you have the full UK driving licence, Provisional licence, European licence, international licence etc. Not all insurers will accept alternative driving licences.

In some cases foreign customers are able to convert their licence from an International or European licence to a full UK driving licence. If the client is from within the EEC (European Economic Community) they will be able to convert the licence without having to retake their driving test.

This means when entering the date they passed their test into the quote engine, we will be able to input the date originally passed in Europe.

For any customer who converts their licence or retakes their test outside of the EEC you will need to enter the date they received their UK licence – not when they originally passed their test. If the client is unsure of when they passed their driving licence it is located on the rear of the photo card licence. The length of licence will affect the premium. The longer you have held your licence the more experience you have, therefore your premium will be lower.
